How do I get Platinum Control?

To begin, you must have Smart Player installed on the device(s) you want to control.

If Smart Player is installed, the most basic PlatinumControl features (device details and connection status) are free. Just login to your account and go to the Control tab.

The advanced Control features require an upgrade to Platinum before they can be accessed. To upgrade your account, contact ScreenScape.




Why do I see a row of blue stars?

The blue stars are upgrade icons. If the account displaying blue stars is upgraded to PlatinumControl, the blue stars will be converted into icons with additional information on the status of the device.




Why do I see a row of grey dashes?

Smart Player not Installed

If you see only grey dashes next to your account under Control, the likely reason is that you do not have Smart Player installed or running on a device.

You must have Smart Player installed and running on the device(s) you want to control.

When I perform an action, how long before I should see the result on the device?

Within about 30 seconds” is the simple answer, if:

  • the device is connected (i.e. if it has a green light in the Connection column) and
  • the device hasn’t received any other actions in the last few minutes.

Within about 5 seconds” is the answer, if:

  • the device is connected and
  • the device has responded to a previous action in the last few minutes.

Once a remote action is requested from the Control interface there will be a short delay, after which the action will be performed on the remote device. If the action is such that it would interrupt playback AND the device is in the middle of playing content (e.g. a video), the device will wait until the content item completes before taking the action.

For example, if the first action you give a device is “Restart playlist”, you will see it take effect within about 30 seconds from giving the action. If you give the same action 2 minutes later, you will see it take effect within about 5 seconds from giving the action.

If the device is not connected to the Internet, the action will be performed when the device reconnects.




Can I perform an action on a disconnected device?

You can request the action to be performed, but the device must have a ‘green’ connection status to receive the message and complete the action.

If the device is not connected (status Orange), the action will be performed when the device reconnects.







Does Platinum Control need SmartPlayer?

Smart Player

Yes.Smart Player works in conjunction with PlatinumControl. It is required for Control to work.

SmartPlayer is the application installed on each device. It runs the digital sign, downloads and stores content, monitors the health of the device, and relays commands to the device such as ‘Reboot’.

Does Platinum Control work with the Browser Player?

Browser Player

No. As a platform for web applications, the browser is not powerful enough to support the remote monitoring and remote actions that come with Platinum Control.

Platinum Control only works with Smart Player.
